Little Nepal

Not seeing good friends is like not getting your daily dose of vitamins. Vitamins are nutrients your body craves and needs to keep chugging along for every minute of your life. Yes, it's true that you can still survive without getting the necessary lot of nutrients each day, but what happens is that your body runs off what nutrients you have previously consumed and stored for a rainy day; your reserve supply. Eventually your reserves run low and you try to ration for as long as you can, but inevitably they fully deplete. You may still function, but hardly. Nothing lasts forever.

Living on empty or on reserves is no way to live, but life is crazy and, understandably, things happen. We can't always meet up with our friends, or we may not have friends we can be real with. We might not even have friends at all by circumstance or choice, and try to ignore it as we might, this truly hinders our ability to function as human beings - the intrinsically social creature that we are. We were designed to live in community and fellowship and function at our optimum when we have  encouraging and supportive others in your lives. We need these people because we need someone who has a different perspective than our and will gently helps us adjust our course. We need these people because we need someone who is empathetic of our struggles but also reminds us of the good. And we need these people because life is hard and you can conflict with everyone and everything, so find someone that will take you out of your head and make your world a whole lot calmer.

After what seems ages, I reconnected with this long-lost Beauty for some much needed catching up and encouragement, and while she was feeding my soul, we opted to feed our bellies too!

We hit up the Little Nepal Indian Restaurant to add some spice to our lives!

Their menu is quite exhaustive and has a good spread of both vegetarian and meat-lover dishes. Quite rightly, they are voted one of The Best Vegetarian Restaurants in Colorado Springs and are a Best of The Springs winner 6 years running!

When you sit down, they promptly place papadam in front for you to devour. It's an Indian chip that comes with two dipping sauces: hari chutney, made from mint and coriander, and imli chutney, a sweet tamarind sauce.

For our second round of starters, we ordered a pair of make-you-beg-for-more spiced vegetarian samosas (sambusa) with a sweet-and-spicy chili sauce.

If if I could pick one thing to eat while stranded out in the desert, it would be this. A paper-thin, crispy, fried shell stuffed with potatoes, vegetables, spices, and meat (if your a meat-lover like myself).

My friend is vegetarian, so Little Nepal was right up both our alleys!

She stuck with the vegetable biryani, pretty much an Indian rice stir-fry. It came with raita on the side, which is a yogurt sauce you mix into the rice if things get too hot.

I, deviously, choose the lamb korma, a very creamy sauce made with... of course... cream, coconut milk, onions, decadent spices, the poor lamb from my neighbor's farm, and jeweled with almond slivers. The flavor is irresistible and gives you such a warm, safe feeling! Topped on rice, it's comfort food with a kick! Serves two, or if you don't forget your to-go box (like me), lunch the next day!

If you're new to Indian food or have been scarred from horror stories of how spicy it can be, try the buffet and sample the culture.

On your way out, grab a scoop of the candied fennel seeds to freshen your breath!

Take an empty stomach and a friend you are longing to see or just getting to know. Share some plates and spend some time catching up and getting your 'vitamins' so you can launch back into the unexpected adventure we call life, and do so feeling satisfied and strong once again!
